There is a variety of 3-wheeled all-terrain pushchairs that provide a fantastic off-road capability. They are ideal if you reside in the countryside or regularly walk on uneven, rough terrain. They are often more robust and durable than a standard pushchair, with special features like large wheels that are puncture-proof to deal with the toughest of surfaces. They can be quite wide and can be difficult to maneuver in narrow spaces or in the aisles of shops.

It's suitable from birth and can be used with an UPPAbaby carrycot, or infant car seat adapters (sold separately).

A lot of all-terrain pushchairs do not have a reversible seat, but the likes of the Oyster 3 wheel bassinet stroller, Venicci Tinum and egg 2 do have this option, and both provide a very good level of off-road performance and have a decent weight limit for a 2-year old. Many pushchairs are categorized as all-rounders. These include the iCandy Pear, Bugaboo Cameleon and a few others. It's also suitable for children from birth and comes with a large, extendable sun canopy as well as a number of fantastic features for parents such as a brake pedal that is easy to use, adjustable handlebar and generously spacious basket.

Storage

There are excellent all-terrain pushchairs designed for parents who would like to take their child off-road, but don't want to take on Ben Nevis. They provide the best of both. Find a model that has good all-terrain capabilities, sturdy suspension, and large puncture-proof wheels, yet is built in a traditional pushchair style with reversible seating as well as full carrycot options.

UPPAbaby's popular Ridge all-terrain pushchair is an excellent example of this; it provides excellent suspension, an easy one-handed fold and a generous 10kg basket, but it also comes with parent-friendly features including an adjustable handlebar, hand-operated brake on the right-hand side and a large covered storage space. The hood can be taken off and washed with cool soapy-water to avoid mould or mildew.

If you plan to take your all-terrain stroller off-road choose air-filled tires instead of rubber grips. They will give you a smoother ride over rough terrain and make it easier to navigate in tight spaces. If you intend to use your all-terrain pushchair for occasional jogging, be sure the front wheel is able to swivel or has a quick release facility so it can be locked in place to give you greater stability.
