Euro Cylinder

Cylinder locks are found on uPVC and other types of doors. The cylinder lock operates with a key that unlocks the cylinder case. The case is then able to reveal pins that can be aligned with those in the lock and allow them to turn the revolving camera, thereby opening the door. Euro cylinders can be fitted with up to six pins. Doors that are internal and external require different levels of security.

Selecting the right cylinder for your needs is vitally important; this depends on the way your door and handle are used. External doors, for instance should be equipped with cylinders with greater security, whereas doors inside can be secured using the standard cylinder. In addition, some cylinders come with additional features that can improve security, for instance anti-drill and anti-bump characteristics.

A euro cylinder must be properly measured to ensure it is the correct size for your door. The cylinder should be measured from the screw hole at the center to the ends of the cylinder. This includes the thumb turn, should there be one. If you are unable measure it using the lock in a fixed position, you can remove it. A cylinder that protrudes beyond the handle and escutcheon may be vulnerable to attacks, such as snapping locks, so it is important to make sure it's not too long.

The majority of modern cylinders have been made with bump and anti-drill features that are built into their design. These are designed to reduce attacks by forcing cylinders to rotate in a new direction. This will help to deflect an attack and protect your door.

Some cylinders are designed to withstand snapping. This is a typical attack on cylinders. A special tool is used to break the break line of the lock and the front of the cylinder is snapped off. This is a lot faster and less difficult than opening the door with multipoint locks and leaves no evidence of a break-in which can hinder the insurance claim.

Spring Cassette

This spring cassette is located in the base plate of the door handle. It provides a sprung solution to bring the multipoint lock handles to their original position after using. Previously a lot of these types of handle did not have a spring built into them, and without it they tend to droop or 'drop' once the locking mechanism has been disengaged. Adding this simple component is one of the best methods to correct this, and is an effective way to keep your doors made of upvc from getting stuck in an open or closed position, since they aren't always easy to manually close by hand.

These spring cassettes are specifically designed to be used with multipoint locks that are sprung, they will not fit unsprung multipoint handles and you must have a hole specifically cut in the backplate to allow them to fit (please check the image for a technical diagram). These cassettes are a solution to damaged or missing cassettes in the backplate of uPVC door handles. They are available as a single unit. They feature a square cut out that is able to accommodate an 8mm shaft.
